唐朝时期，秘书监贺知章在府上宴请宾客，李白在席上作诗《草书歌行》。玄奘法师的弟子怀素善长草书，当众被要求作书法，怀素援笔蘸墨，凝神运气挥毫，很快写就，贺知章赞叹道：“上人书写，左盘右旋，真是笔走龙蛇。”
